Discovery can sometimes be best the best way to learn something new. The first graders had a discovery learning experience to prepare them for a math chapter on graphs and charts. After practice with sorting and categorizing, the students were asked to represent their data visually, on a poster. How could they show what was in their basket of shapes without using the basket? Students got very close to discovering bar graphs and picture graphs through their exploration!

The kindergarteners jumped right into learning today by beginning their sight word memorization! These two were quizzing each other! We are ready to continue to learn in 2019!

The 3rd graders had a great time building gingerbread houses today! It wasn't just fun and games, however. They first had to make a design, then build the houses based on their plans. Tomorrow, they will make a graph of the candies they used and reflect on the end product.

In Mrs. Burdette’s class, students have the choice of being a mentor in another class. Last Friday, this student, another 3rd grader and a 4th grader came to serve in the Kindergarten class. Such a special time!

The Kindergarteners did a great job leading chapel by singing the song. “Jacob and Sons” in their own technicolor dream coat!

It’s the second week in Advent, and our first grade class continues to keep Christ at the center of the season. Here are some more excerpts from their Advent Alphabet books (an Advent writing project).

Dr. Walner engages in conversation with some of our lower elementary students this afternoon.

Already in first grade, we are working on developing and growing student leaders. Students have a different classroom job each week that teaches leadership and responsibility. Here is a first grade student leading our Morning Calendar time today.

Today in 3rd Grade we learned about different ways to measure matter. To practice, we went outside to measure bubbles! It wasn't easy, but it sure was fun!

The first graders are learning the story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho (Joshua 5-6). To delve into the story, we re-enacted the seventh day of the battle: we walked around the “city of Jericho” (our desks) seven times and blew our trumpets in victory!

Preschool Christmas program dress rehearsal

The kindergarteners filled up Mr. Potato again! They chose to wear slippers, eat a yummy snack, and read a Christmas book. They are rockstars! These were some of their “serious” faces, but trust me, they were thrilled!

Books can help us stay focused on Jesus as the center of the Advent season! Today, our Guest Reader brought books that reminded Bethany first graders of these truths: first, that Christmas is God’s gift to us and second, that Jesus wants to be welcomed into our hearts. Thank you, Mrs. Parry, for such beautiful and timely reminders!

5th grade and Kindergarten join together for reading fun!

5th grade make literature come alive by making corn pudding. Yum!

Advent is here, the season of waiting. First graders want to rush to Christmas and Santa and presents, but Mrs. Poppleton is asking them to slow down and to enjoy the wait. The first graders are making Advent alphabet books again this year to focus on the true meaning of the season. Check out some of their first pages. 💕💜

5th grade Meets with our Kinder-buddies for reading.

Today the fifth graders read to the kindergarteners. Such a blessing to be able to have older student come alongside younger students.

We welcomed another Guest Reader into our first grade classroom today! Mr. Lin read *Badger’s Fancy Meal,* one of his family’s favorite books. Thank you for sharing your love for reading with our class, Mr. Lin!

We’re getting prepared for Advent - the season of waiting - in first grade. Our Advent “wreath” (made from student-traced hand cutouts) is ready to count down the weeks to Jesus’ birth. Each week we will “light” a candle to symbolize the Light of Christ coming into the world. We wait. He comes.
